Choosing A CMS

My Response to Site Reference.

I must agree with most of the thing’s for this post. It was a tad funny, but I just posted a comment on my blog about CMS. I have played around with and installed several of these systems mentioned above. Primarily Joomla and WP. Joomla’s dashboard is a little confusing at first as stated. After spending some time inside of the Joomla dashboard, it started to get much easier. As far as plugins go, WP has the best overall options. Thought Drupal was to unorganized but the frame work was solid. Another option not mentioned above is CMS Light if you do not like Joomla, Drupal or WP. I believe WP is the easiest and foremost simplest to install, maintain and to find help articles on.

Content Management Systems

Okay Joe, I took a look at the Sales Lion website and read through some of the content written. I also have seen HubSpot on my own several times in the last year or so. Nice CMS system. This is an easy way such as WP to create and maintain a website. Although it takes time to learn the CMS system and apply it. The same applies to WP. You have to have at least some minimal HTML knowledge, CSS and programming knowledge to get the results you want to achieve.

As a Webmaster I install these Content Management Systems and help manage website that use these types of systems. It is still a time consuming task even for a intermediate tech savvy individual to maintain a website designed by one of these CMS‘s. Also keep in mind that one of the thing’s that makes WP so popular is the fact that  it is completely free and can be simple to install even if your a beginner for the most part. But most of these individuals eventually require an experienced Webmaster to design the site for them or they are left with the choices given to them by WP.

This industry has made some significant gains in the last 3 years and still continues to remain popular because of the ease of use for most individuals and the fact that these kinds of websites are very search engine friendly. I hope this was not to much for you, I like talking about these kinds of thing’s, and if you have any questions please contact me anytime. I am usually at a computer working away or studying.

Best regards,

Ty Whalin

Google Panda Update

This is my response to the article posted on WebProNews.

Yes, the results have changed for plenty of websites. The results have gotten better and are no longer trash “so to speak”. To me it appears that several sectors have taken a few hits. Your example really reflects on the fact that if the writer has the authority to be listed higher or lower because of who they are writing for, eHow or WebMD for example. The inception of Panda has definitely produced different results. I think that even if the article was written by the same individual it would be placed more accordingly because if the optimization and other page ranking factors each website has developed. Most people know that eHow is a high priority website, which I am sure has the more links built than the other website discussed. The search engines like all those links especially if they are of high quality and relative.

Although I must agree that having someone who is a expert on the subject be writing the articles instead of some fly by night individual who is just good at writing and trying to make a quick buck. I suppose my final thought on this topic, is that if the article is on a higher PR page; then it will get higher results. Not so much who wrote the article.

Microsoft Buys Skype For $8.5 Billion, Now What?

I think this was a great buy for Microsoft, but I also like Skype being a separate entity on its’ own. As long as the software giant improves its services for Skype usage and continues to make Skype a better product it should remain as a huge contender. I have been a Skype user for about 5 years and remember when they were the new kind on the block.

This company has changed immensely through the years and have supported them from the start, even when people did not know who Skype was or even what services the offered. There are a few browser quirks that should be debugged, but overall, I give them a good rating, 9 out of 10.

I am curious to whether or not the fee’s will changed for better or for worse. They have been competitive for years and that is one of the reasons they have become a successful company. It should be interesting to find out how Microsoft navigates this one.

Directory Submissions – Spam

January 31, 2011 Leave a comment

I just had a conversation the other night concerning all the article and directory submissions on the internet. If you think about it, it all boils down to building links. Companies are creating article and submission directories at an alarming rate because they make money for paid directories. While these directories are supposed to bring you links, they are really just spam in essence. I do SEO daily on page and off page and know how much the search engines put into link building and the quality of links you gain for your business on the internet. This is what truly has sparked the endless amounts of directories being created daily. Although this directories are perfectly okay to post links and advertise, they really truly are spam if you think about it.

Link Building

January 24, 2011 2 comments

Okay as a webmaster for several websites there is plenty going on in the industry. If exchanging links with other websites is consider wrong by Google, then why do so many people continue to do it? Of course this is not the paid one-way links, but reciprocal linking. This has been stated by certain SEO companies: Buying / exchanging links with other websites isn’t perfectly legal from Google’s point of view. Google can penalize your website if it comes to know of the same.

Now, does this concept apply to the huge amount of directories on the internet that you pay for and they list you in a specific category or would this purchase of directory submission be fine since you can be listed in a relevant category? Which by the way has gotten out of hand. The list of directories is growing at an alarming rate. When will it “Stop”. Is it worth while to pay for directory submissions especially if Google is being selective about who does the submissions?

The reciprocal linking really came into play when small businesses could not afford to pay for one-way linking. I myself have created a page for exchanging links. I created my own directory service to establish two-way links. Since I could not afford to pay for linking and don’t have enough time to blog all day, should I be penalized by Google or any search engine’s for that matter?

Also if Google is being selective about who is doing the SEO, wouldn’t that mean that they are being selective about the software vendors being used to do the SEO?

Overview

Apr 24, 2010

In the modern marketplace, developing and maintaining an active web presence is essential. Customers look for services and products online as a matter of course, and organizations with rudimentary or confusing web sites may loose thousands of dollars in sales to businesses with more polished and professional avenues for electronic commerce. Experts are needed to create the right look and feel. Companies that intend to hire designers and developers for their web sites will need to use a caution when selecting someone to perform specific services for them. Considerations

Three main points to search engine optimization, submission, optimization, and traffic.
Optimization includes the choice of words used in the text paragraphs and the placement of those words on the page, both visible and hidden inside meta tags, titles, alt tags, just to name a few. Search engines use different criteria for indexing pages, while this already complex world of search engine optimization over whelming at times, the changing of this criteria adds to the ever increasing complexities of search engine optimization.

If your business is planning on creating an online presence should be a top priority governing how you do business. As you may know there are literally millions of web sites on the Internet. If you plan on gaining an edge on the competition then search engine optimization is a necessity. It takes endless hours of research, trying different techniques, and deciding what works best for you.

Conclusion

If you decide that this is not your forte, please consult a professional to better help you manage these services. There are a variety of businesses to choose from when it comes to search engine optimization. Weigh your options carefully when deciding who you choose to obtain services from for optimization.
